Take a good look at this image. We mean, take a really good look at it. Do you notice anything wrong with the bicycle? Of course you do. The front parts and the saddle are missing.
In a number of Western countries where a number of people commute to and from work with their bicycles find themselves to be the victims of bike theft. If the thief couldn't have the whole bike, they might as well just get parts of it, which they can sell, or else what would be the point of them stealing those bike parts.
Here in our country, bicycle theft is not uncommon, but seldom seen as not many people commute to and from work using their bikes. For one, it's because of our hot and humid climate. Another reason is that most Malaysians just love motored vehicles, be they motorbikes, cars, SUVs and so on. We hate traffic congestion, but we hate getting all sweaty in our casual/work clothes even more.
But, let's just say that you do commute to work and back to home on a bicycle, how do you get around the sticky issue of making sure your bike doesn't get stolen? Take it into your workplace? That would be ideal if your workplace allows it, and we have yet to see anyone bringing in their bikes and parking them next to their workstations.
The solution? Get a folding bike. It's portable, so you can take it on the train going and coming back from work. It's compact, so you can put it next to your desk at the office. All in all, a folding bike is just practical. They may not be the most cool-looking bikes, but they sure come in handy, especially in fending off would-be bike thieves.
